Bots Return to Valve’s Team Fortress 2 as Hackers Use New Tactic to Disrupt Games
Team Fortress 2 Players Report Bots Filling Server Slots
Players say bots are once again disrupting Team Fortress 2, making it difficult for some to find a match during the Halloween event.
The free-to-play game remains popular years after its release. Fans spent a long time complaining about bots and campaigning to “save TF2.” Valve eventually responded with an update that helped remove many of them.
Previously, hackers used so-called “spin bots,” launching several bots on a server that selected the Sniper class, spun in place, and shot players in the head.
Players say hackers now use bots that do not select a class and instead fill server slots. As a result, human players can spend a long time trying to find a match.

Members of the Team Fortress 2 community say they do not know how to combat the problem:
How can we, as ordinary players, fight this? At the moment, we can’t. There’s no way to report them, and we don’t know who they are. Some game modes aren’t being attacked, and public servers are safe too, so you can play on those if you want.
Some players believe Valve will soon lose money because people who cannot start a match have little incentive to buy cosmetic items they cannot show anyone. They speculate that Valve will notice a decline in Team Fortress 2 revenue and decide to act.
