Xbox President Says the Idea of Exclusives Is Outdated

Sarah Bond, President of Xbox, says the concept of exclusive games is becoming outdated. In a recent interview she noted that players now want to play anywhere and with anyone — whether on a console, a PC, or via cloud services.

Bond stressed that Xbox’s aim today is to connect people rather than divide them by platform. She cited Minecraft, Fortnite, and Call of Duty as examples — large communities that are available on nearly every device.

“Players want to play with friends wherever they are, regardless of the device they’re using. That’s exactly what we’re striving for by opening up new ways to play through the cloud, PC, and home consoles.”

Microsoft is shifting its strategy: instead of relying on exclusives, the company is making its games more widely available and not locked to a single console.
