Xbox Canceled a New Killer Instinct, Insider Claims
Xbox previously canceled development on a new entry in the Killer Instinct franchise, according to industry insider Shpeshal Nick.
The report suggests fans should not expect a return of the fighting game series anytime soon. It also indicates that a mystery Xbox project rumored for the upcoming Gamescom Opening Night Live showcase is likely unrelated to the property.
Speculation began circulating after reports suggested Xbox could reveal an unannounced game during the broadcast. Killer Instinct quickly emerged as a candidate among community members, but Shpeshal Nick dismissed the theory on social media, stating, “Not KI. That got cancelled.”

Specific details regarding the canceled title remain undisclosed. The insider did not specify when the project was in active production or which development studio led the effort. Neither Microsoft nor Xbox has officially confirmed the claim.
Killer Instinct was rebooted in 2013 for Xbox One. Double Helix Games led initial development before Iron Galaxy took over production for subsequent seasons. The franchise has not received a full sequel since.
