Xbox Back Online After Microsoft Fixes Global Azure Outage

This week Microsoft confirmed that its services have been restored after a global Azure outage that disrupted numerous services around the world.

The disruption affected Microsoft 365, Xbox, Minecraft, and organizations such as Starbucks, Capital One, and Alaska Airlines. According to Microsoft, the root cause was an “accidental configuration change” combined with DNS issues. The company posted frequent updates on social media and on the Azure status page as systems were brought back online.

Xbox Support stated that gaming services are now fully recovered, although some users reported needing to reboot their consoles to reestablish access.

“Beginning around 16:00 UTC on October 29, 2025, Microsoft customers and services on AFD may have experienced delays, timeouts, and errors. We have confirmed that the cause was an accidental configuration change,” the company’s status page said.

The incident occurred a week after a widespread Amazon Web Services outage that disrupted several major online platforms.
