Writers and Directors of “The Witcher” Season 5 Revealed — Finale Written by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich

Production on the fifth and final season of The Witcher has wrapped, and the creative team behind the Netflix saga’s concluding chapter has been revealed.

The fifth season of Netflix’s The Witcher is now in post-production. Filming took place across the United Kingdom in early 2025, and the scripts were completed as far back as last summer. Reports indicate that, for the first time in the series’ history, the entire final season was directed by just three filmmakers.

Episodes 1, 7 and 8 were directed by Jeremy Webb, who previously worked on The Last of Us and directed the finale episodes of The Witcher’s fourth season. Episodes 3 and 4 were entrusted to Christopher Clark Cowen, known for staging action sequences on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and The Acolyte, and who served as assistant director on The Witcher’s fourth season — this marks his debut as a lead director. Episodes 5 and 6 were shot by Álex García López, who contributed to the first season and returned to the show for season four.

The writing team was led by showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich — the writer of the series’ very first episode and now the finale of season five. She was joined on the scripts by Javier Grillo‑Marsua, Tera Vail Reagan, Troy Dangerfield, Claire Higgins, Ray Benjamin, Matthew D’Ambrosio, Tanya Lotia and Mike Ostrovski.

No official premiere date for season five has been announced yet. The release is expected to take place in 2026.
