Woody Harrelson Declines to Return to “True Detective”

Actor Woody Harrelson said he does not intend to return for another installment of the series True Detective.

Earlier, Harrelson’s friend and co‑star Matthew McConaughey indicated he would be open to revisiting the project. Series creator Nic Pizzolatto had reported in the spring that there was an idea to bring Rust Cohle and Marty Hart back to the screen.

“Matthew is so funny. Honestly — never. No chance… Because it was perfect. I like that it ended the way it did, and, if I’m being honest, I think another season would just ruin it,” Harrelson said on the Today morning show.

True Detective premiered on HBO in 2014. Four seasons have aired so far; a fifth is currently in development, with Nicolas Cage set to star.
