Warner Bros. Lost Over $800M in 2026
The new leadership at Warner Bros. under Skydance estimates the studio’s financial setbacks for 2026 to exceed $800 million. According to Page Six, a substantial portion of these deficits stems from motion pictures greenlit by former studio chiefs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy.
Among the most financially disastrous misfires is Alejandro González Iñárritu’s “The Digger” starring Tom Cruise, with projected theatrical losses hovering around $250 million. Maggie Gyllenhaal’s “The Bride!” reportedly generated upwards of $100 million in red ink. Even Paul Thomas Anderson’s Best Picture Oscar winner, “The Battle After the Battle,” allegedly fell short by $75 million relative to anticipated revenues. Additional commercial underperformers cited include “Supergirl” and “Practical Magic 2.”
Compounding matters, Skydance executives are growing increasingly apprehensive not only about current box office returns but also regarding the slate of upcoming releases slated for 2027.
Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy stepped down from their executive positions shortly before the finalization of Paramount Skydance’s acquisition of Warner Bros. in October 2026. Oversight of the merged studio’s film division has now passed to Dana Goldberg and Josh Greenstein.
