Director Woody Allen has secured funding for a new picture from the regional government of Madrid, according to the Spanish newspaper El País.
The grant amounts to €1.5 million — the same sum Allen received for the production of his other Spain-set film, Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Under the subsidy rules, the director will be required to include “Madrid” in the title of his new project.
Plot details remain unknown. Besides Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Allen also filmed Rifkin’s Festival (2020) in Spain. His most recent — and 50th — project, The Great Irony, was shot in French and released in the fall of 2023.
