Peacemaker season 2 concluded on a dramatic cliffhanger that showrunner James Gunn says propels the wider DCU forward. That narrative thread is slated to continue in the 2027 feature Man of Tomorrow. But what does that mean for the TV series and the fate of the 11th Street Kids — will there be a third season of Peacemaker? Below is everything currently known.

So — will there be a Peacemaker season 3?

Short answer: possibly.

On the most recent episode of Peacemaker: The Official Podcast, Gunn opened with an unexpected line suggesting the finale might be the last episode of the series as it exists now. He later clarified that while the show and its characters remain important to him, their next appearances may take different forms within the DCU.

Speaking with Deadline, Gunn emphasized that the immediate focus is on how the season’s ending feeds into other DCU stories rather than committing to a traditional third season at this time. He did not rule out a return, but framed the finale chiefly as groundwork for future projects across the universe.

Gunn revealed that his original draft ended on what he describes as an intensely joyful montage: the 11th Street Kids using the cash Vigilante (Freddie Stroma) seized from criminals to launch their own intelligence outfit, Checkmate. That sequence, in Gunn’s view, would have been a genuinely hopeful finale — a clean, uplifting new beginning for characters trying to atone and build something better together.

However, after sharing the script with DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran, Gunn expanded the ending to deepen the DCU connection. The broadcast finale instead strands Chris Smith (John Cena) on the prison world Salvation, which is implied to be teeming with monstrous, otherworldly creatures — a choice that strengthens the season’s linkage to larger DC mythology. Gunn also inserted a tender beat where Eagly gives John Economos (Steve Agee) a reassuring hug, signaling the bird will be cared for despite Chris’s absence.

Cena has expressed his enthusiasm for returning whenever possible, saying he’d love for the team to reunite. Gunn likewise remains fervent about the character: even if the series doesn’t immediately continue in a season 3, Gunn has made clear he intends to keep Peacemaker prominent in the DCU — cultivating him alongside the franchise’s cornerstone heroes and elevating him into a recurring, meaningful role.

Gunn framed the plan as both preserving DC’s marquee properties like Batman and Superman and elevating smaller, singular characters — creating new “diamond” properties out of figures such as Peacemaker so they can hold long-term importance within the universe.
