Kane Parsons to Return to The Backrooms

According to a report from Dread Central, Kane Parsons is officially set to reclaim the director’s chair for the upcoming sequel to the horror hit The Backrooms.

While neither A24 nor representatives for Parsons have provided an official statement, the 21-year-old filmmaker is widely recognized for creating the viral YouTube web series of the same name, which debuted in 2022. The series garnered widespread acclaim for its unsettling depiction of a mysterious, liminal dimension populated by surreal and terrifying entities.

The feature film adaptation, which premiered late this May, became a massive commercial triumph, grossing $394 million worldwide and securing its place as the highest-grossing film in A24’s history. Critics were equally enthusiastic, awarding the movie an 87% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a score of 76 on Metacritic. Currently, Parsons is also developing an additional project within the Backrooms universe alongside director Osgood Perkins (Longlegs).
