Warner Bros. to Release New Version of “Get Smart”

John Mulaney is currently in negotiations to headline an upcoming feature film reboot of the iconic spy comedy “Get Smart,” currently in development at Warner Bros. The script is being penned by Seth Grahame-Smith. Should the deal be finalized, Mulaney will spearhead the new ensemble cast, though further details regarding the production remain under wraps.

The original “Get Smart” series debuted in 1965 and enjoyed a five-season run, totaling 138 episodes. The show centered on Maxwell Smart (Don Adams), an agent for the clandestine organization CONTROL—a well-meaning but hopelessly bumbling spy who consistently found himself in absurd predicaments. He was paired with the far more capable Agent 99 (Barbara Feldon). The series was a critical and commercial smash, securing seven Emmy Awards, including three consecutive wins for Outstanding Comedy Series.

The franchise previously made the transition to the silver screen in 2008, a film that starred Steve Carell as Maxwell Smart and Anne Hathaway as his partner, with Dwayne Johnson appearing as Agent 23.
