Warner Bros. Discovery Puts Itself Up for Sale

Warner Bros. Discovery has announced plans to explore a sale after reviewing “strategic options to enhance shareholder value.”

The move follows reports that management received unexpected interest from multiple parties considering bids for either the entire company or individual units, including Warner Bros.

While potential buyers are being sought, Warner Bros. Discovery will continue the process of unbundling its assets — from cable networks and streaming platforms to its film studios. Any transaction, however, could take considerable time. The company is valued at more than $45 billion but still carries substantial debt.

Its catalogue includes major franchises such as Harry Potter, Game of Thrones and DC Comics. The company also operates a games division that oversees titles like Hogwarts Legacy, Mortal Kombat and various DC superhero projects. That division includes TT Games, known for its LEGO adaptations, which is developing Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, scheduled for release in 2026.

On the same day the company disclosed plans to pursue a full or partial sale, Warner Bros. Discovery raised HBO Max subscription prices in the United States.
