Following its recent return to independent development, Double Fine Productions has officially revived its celebrated internal game jam, Amnesia Fortnight. The community-powered initiative invites Kickstarter backers into the creative process via livestream, granting supporters the power to decide which experimental ideas evolve into the studio’s next playable release. The entire endeavor will also be documented on film, adding another chapter to the team’s storied history of transparent development.

Titled Amnesia Fortnight 2026 – Indie Reboot: A Double Fine Productions Game Jam, Documentary and Kickstarter Campaign, the event is scheduled to begin on August 31 and extend through late September. According to the studio’s Kickstarter announcement, participants will help whittle down a broad spectrum of conceptual pitches into four distinct playable prototypes, ultimately crowning one project to be developed into a full, boutique title. Backers will also gain access to exclusive merchandise, archives, and developmental perks throughout the campaign.

Chronicling the entire process is 2 Player Productions, the documentary crew responsible for the critically lauded series Double Fine Adventure and the exhaustive 32-part chronicle PsychOdyssey. Known for their unfiltered, intimate lens on game production, the filmmakers previously captured the complete development arcs of Broken Age and Psychonauts 2, and will once again provide an unvarnished window into the studio’s creative triumphs and obstacles.

This creative resurgence delivers a welcome burst of momentum following a turbulent summer for the veteran studio. In July, Double Fine was one of several teams cut from Xbox’s internal lineup amid widespread corporate restructuring. While the studio successfully preserved complete ownership of its intellectual property and back catalog upon regaining its independence, the transition unfortunately prompted workforce reductions as the team reoriented itself for a new era of self-guided production.
