In a recent op-ed for Variety, Fast & Furious star Vin Diesel championed the significance of mainstream cinema, arguing that it remains a vital pillar of the art form.
The actor emphasized that the collective reaction of an audience serves as the ultimate measure of a film’s cinematic value.
“Twenty-five years ago, the original Fast & Furious reminded Hollywood of a truth it had begun to overlook: popular cinema, when crafted with conviction and passion, is not inferior. It embodies art in its most ancient and essential form—a story shared with the entire community, a metaphorical campfire around which we all gather,”
— Diesel wrote. Last week, the Cannes Film Festival hosted a special anniversary screening of the franchise. While the script for the series’ grand finale is still in development, the film is currently slated for a 2028 release.
