Netflix has announced the most extensive theatrical release window in its history for the Cannes sensation and sweeping melodrama, The Black Ball, according to reports.

Directed by Spanish filmmakers Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, the film is set to debut in U.S. theaters on October 16 before arriving on the streaming platform on December 2. This 47-day gap marks a new record for the interval between a film’s theatrical premiere and its digital release for Netflix. The previous benchmark was held by Noah Baumbach’s Marriage Story, which saw a 30-day window in 2019.

The Black Ball weaves together the lives of three men spanning an entire century. The ensemble cast features powerhouse performances by Penélope Cruz and Glenn Close. Calvo and Ambrossi were honored with directing awards at the Cannes Film Festival, and the film has been met with critical acclaim, currently boasting an 88% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
