Following recent litigation against Valve concerning loot boxes, a well-known Counter-Strike 2 dataminer going by the handle Thour has shared his latest findings and predictions.

He suggests that Valve has decided to phase out traditional cases in CS2, transitioning instead to a “terminal-based” system.

While standard cases traditionally drop random items immediately upon opening, the “terminal” mechanic operates differently. When a player accesses it, they are presented with an offer to purchase a specific, randomly selected item. The player then decides whether to finalize the purchase or refresh the selection, though the refresh option is restricted to a limited number of uses.
