During the Gamescom Opening Night Live showcase, publisher NetEase and developer Naked Rain pulled back the curtain on Ananta, their stylish urban open-world sandbox. The presentation treated fans to an extensive look at its high-octane gameplay and eccentric story, culminating in the official announcement of its launch date.
Affectionately nicknamed “anime Grand Theft Auto” by the community, Ananta is anchored by an unorthodox premise: “Go Viral. Save the World.” Players step into the role of Captain, a beleaguered operative belonging to the crumbling peacekeeping agency known as the ACD. Tasked with neutralizing supernatural and criminal chaos throughout sprawling metropolises like Nova City, Captain must rebuild the organization from the ground up while searching for their estranged father. In a society ruled by digital trends and internet culture, the most direct path to power and resources is becoming a world-renowned social media influencer.
Ascend the Algorithm: Clout-Driven Gameplay
Progression in Ananta is intimately tied to expanding your follower base and digital reputation. Fame is accrued not merely through high-stakes campaign operations, but through mundane interactions—such as fulfilling public bounties, tackling civilian requests, and capturing stylish selfies with bystanders. Amplifying your online clout rewards you with exclusive influencer privileges, mission opportunities, and advanced resources.
Exploring Chongxiao: A Dense Asian Metropolis
The showcase spotlighted the game’s second major setting: Chongxiao. Heavily inspired by the modern skylines and cultural hubs of Tokyo, Shanghai, and Hangzhou, this multi-layered sandbox features a rich tapestry of leisure activities and micro-interactions. Between skirmishes, players can unwind at maid and cat cafés, mahjong dens, hot springs, bustling eateries, or participate in diverse carnival mini-games.
Traversing this urban sprawl is multifaceted. Ground navigation spans standard sports cars, motorcycles, skateboards, and an operational subway network; maritime routes can be tackled with high-speed yachts and powerboats; and vertical airspace can be mastered via hang gliders, helicopters, and experimental flying automobiles.

Martial Arts Combat and Dynamic Squad Mechanics
Chongxiao is populated by more than 100 uniquely scripted NPCs, each presenting distinctive narrative arcs. Fostering deep relationships with these citizens allows players to recruit them directly into the ACD roster, unlocking exclusive tactical maneuvers and equipment. Naked Rain has emphasized that players can fluidly rotate between multiple ACD agents in the field, each offering distinct mechanics, perspectives, and combat styles.
The core combat engine draws heavily from traditional martial arts disciplines, including Shaolin kung fu. Players can seek out master practitioners across the city to expand their fighting repertoires while seamlessly integrating dynamic environmental objects as improvised weaponry during skirmishes.
Ananta is scheduled to launch worldwide on January 15, 2027, arriving on PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam as well as a dedicated client.
