Upcoming Horror Game VCR83 Turns Security Cameras Into Source of Fear
In the psychological horror game VCR83, players earn tokens to unlock new levels and story content by correctly reporting anomalies, though a single mistake can cost them their progress.
VCR83 is an observational psychological horror game where players monitor security cameras and search for anomalies, slowly realizing that their virtual assistant, Pete, knows far too much about them.
During a shift, players must watch the cameras in real time and note anything suspicious. Correct reports award tokens used to unlock new levels and story segments, while mistakes can cost players their progress.
The developers prepared four locations, each featuring its own cameras, anomalies, secrets, and story fragments. Six game modes are available: easy, normal, hard, real-time, random, and dark. These modes alter the pacing of events and the level of trust in what happens on the screen.
Special attention is given to the virtual assistant Pete, who initially simply helps during shifts before beginning to monitor results, react to the player’s actions, and show a growing interest in them. Players can talk to Pete, ask him questions, request a song, or tease him.
After each level, players unlock a three-to-five-minute gameplay scene titled “Consequences,” which allows them to return to the location and see what happened after the cameras stopped recording.
