During this year’s Gamescom Opening Night Live showcase, Ubisoft unveiled an unexpected evolution for its premier tactical franchise: Rainbow Six Tactics. Translating the intense, high-stakes tactical philosophy of Rainbow Six Siege into an isometric, turn-based single-player campaign, the spin-off integrates the destructible environments, calculated breaches, and specialized gadgets that defined its competitive predecessor.
In Rainbow Six Tactics, players direct elite counter-terrorism operatives through bespoke, globally distributed mission zones. Scenarios demand precision planning across a variety of tactical mandates, including hostage extraction, high-value target apprehending, and bomb disposal. A cornerstone of each encounter is the coordinated breach phase, allowing players to synchronize multiple operatives to breach entry points, demolish barricades, and infiltrate compound structures simultaneously.
The campaign puts 15 distinct operators under your command, including franchise staples such as Sledge, Ash, Montagne, Twitch, Doc, Glaz, and Nøkk—each reimagined with abilities and loadouts faithful to their competitive Siege counterparts. At the narrative helm sits Commander Paul Bishop, the renowned protagonist of Rainbow Six Vegas, serving in the iconic role of “Six.” Developed in direct collaboration with the mainline lore team, the story bridges the chronological gap between Siege‘s 10th and 11th operational years.
Departing sharply from prevailing live-service industry models, Ubisoft affirmed that Rainbow Six Tactics is built strictly as a standalone, single-player adventure free from recurring microtransactions or an in-game digital storefront.
Development is helmed by Ubisoft Paris, drawing heavily on veterans renowned for their tactical design on the acclaimed Mario + Rabbids series alongside contributors from the Ghost Recon franchise.
Rainbow Six Tactics is scheduled to launch in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
