The new installment’s quality has left many fans disappointed.

The original city-building simulator Cities: Skylines is beloved by many, but the sequel did not meet expectations. Since its 2023 launch, players have voiced frequent criticism about optimization problems and persistent bugs.

Colossal Order has issued multiple patches and released additional content, yet reception to Cities: Skylines 2 remains mixed, and concerns about the title’s overall polish continue.

Recently, Paradox Interactive announced that the project will be transferred to Iceflake Studios.

Starting in 2026, a new team will take charge of developing Cities: Skylines 2:

After more than a decade of successful collaboration on numerous projects we both greatly value, Paradox Interactive and Colossal Order have mutually decided to pursue independent paths. Iceflake Studios will assume responsibility for developing Cities: Skylines 2 at the beginning of 2026. This measured decision was made in the best interests of both teams and aims to secure the brightest possible future for the Cities: Skylines franchise.
