Creative Assembly is currently developing the galactic strategy game Total War: Warhammer 40,000, periodically showcasing various elements of the title. Journalists recently went hands-on with the project, sharing gameplay footage and initial impressions online.

The game runs on the WarCore engine, marking the first installment in the franchise built on this technology. An IGN reporter noted that the capabilities of WarCore stood out most when pausing the game and zooming the camera straight into the battlefield action:

You could make out different blood-spattered units or fighters leaping over cover. Watching my Space Marines’ chainswords—with sparking motorized teeth—clash with Ork axes while bullets whizzed overhead was truly thrilling.

Players in Total War: Warhammer 40,000 will be able to create and paint their own custom Space Marine Chapter. The system uses official paint names produced by Games Workshop, including options such as Caledor Sky, Screamer Pink, and Mournfang Brown, allowing players to field pink armor loadouts.

Total War: Warhammer 40,000 is available to wishlist on Steam. The developers have not yet announced a specific release date or launch window on the store page.
