Todd Howard, head of Bethesda and the creator of the Elder Scrolls and Fallout franchises, has named Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 the best game of 2025.
Expedition 33 is genuinely striking. I regard it as a work of art in many respects.
He also singled out Death Stranding 2 and Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.
Howard’s endorsement coincided with the release of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, which arrived two days before Clair Obscur. Both titles are available on Xbox Game Pass.
Expedition 33 has sold more than 5 million copies and leads The Game Awards 2025 nominations with a record 12 nods. The game also became the year’s largest third-party release on Xbox Game Pass.
Todd Howard remains at work on The Elder Scrolls VI, but admits the title is still far from release.
