British actor and filmmaker Kenneth Branagh, known for his work in the Harry Potter series, recently shared his reflections on helming the 2011 solo film centering on the God of Thunder, Thor.
Branagh revealed that he harbors a desire to bring the character’s narrative arc to a close by directing another installment—one characterized by a grittier, more somber tone reminiscent of James Mangold’s Logan.
“I was certainly prepared to helm another film, but not immediately. The Marvel production machine is incredibly intense. Post-production is exhilarating, yet exceptionally demanding, and I required time to decompress. Kevin Feige [Marvel’s president] was remarkably understanding, as were the cast members. I simply needed a reprieve… A part of me still longs to complete my work with the character. I have always wanted to do more, and I actually had a few concepts in mind that echoed the brilliance of James Mangold’s Logan. I would love to see Chris Hemsworth and the rest of the ensemble have their own definitive swan song, one that guides Thor into a glorious twilight,”
Branagh remarked in an interview with Business Insider. In addition to Hemsworth, the original Thor featured performances by Tom Hiddleston and Anthony Hopkins, ultimately grossing $449 million worldwide. The comic book adaptation was well-received by critics and paved the way for three sequels. Thor is also slated to appear in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, which is scheduled for release this December.
