Olivia Wilde’s ‘The Invitation’ gets digital release date

The comedy “The Invitation,” helmed by director Olivia Wilde and produced by A24, is slated for its digital streaming debut on August 11, according to reports from WhenToStream.

Although the distribution company Exponenta Film had originally planned to bring the feature to Russian theaters, the premiere was unexpectedly scrapped for reasons that remain undisclosed.

Boasting a star-studded cast that includes Wilde herself alongside Seth Rogen, Penélope Cruz, and Edward Norton, the film serves as a remake of the Italian hit “Perfect Strangers.” The plot centers on two neighboring couples whose quiet evening takes an unexpected turn as they uncover hidden truths about their relationships.

Following its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival this January, the film garnered critical acclaim, maintaining a 97% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The project proved to be a commercial success as well, grossing $40 million worldwide against a production budget of $12 million.
