‘They Messed Up’: Hello Games Mocks Once Human Developers for Allegedly Stealing a Model from No Man’s Sky

This concerns a teleporter being sold for real money in Once Human.

Developers of the survival game Once Human have been accused of copying a model from No Man’s Sky.

User Koyonaku compared the Sky King cosmetic item from No Man’s Sky to the teleport module used in Once Human. In Once Human the item is only available as a top-tier reward in the premium lootbox Lightforge Lootcrate, which players must purchase with real money. In No Man’s Sky the teleporter can be obtained for free through normal gameplay.

The post gained traction and reached Hello Games founder Sean Murray, who responded to the matter with a tongue-in-cheek remark.

There — they messed up. We forgot to optimize the rivet detail.
Sean Murray, Head of Hello Games.

Murray attached a screenshot from the NMS editor showing that the teleporter’s rivets carry an excessive level of detail — thousands of polygons instead of an optimized mesh. If the model was indeed copied, Once Human’s performance could suffer as a result.
