The Witcher Reveals Massive Crossover With Iconic Gaming Franchise

Gamescom’s Opening Night Live delivered a massive reveal for dark fantasy enthusiasts: CD Projekt Red is releasing a remastered edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt ahead of its highly anticipated Songs of the Past expansion. In a welcome move for the community, the graphical and performance upgrade will be provided completely free of charge to existing game owners. This release gives veteran monster hunters the perfect excuse to revisit the Continent while extending an enticing invitation to newcomers.

The visual overhaul was only part of the studio’s major announcements. CD Projekt Red also revealed a historic cross-promotional partnership with Blizzard Entertainment, introducing a Geralt of Rivia cosmetic set to Diablo IV and bringing The Witcher 3 to Blizzard’s Battle.net ecosystem.

According to CD Projekt Red’s PR team, this alliance represents a relationship “three decades in the making.” In 1998, a fledgling CD Projekt served as Blizzard’s primary distributor in Poland, localizing and delivering seminal titles to the domestic market. The dynamic has now come full circle, with Blizzard hosting CD Projekt Red’s flagship title on its own launcher. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered is now available for pre-purchase on Battle.net ahead of its late-September launch.

Geralt-Themed Cosmetic Arrives in Sanctuary

Community leads at CD Projekt Red have stated that this initiative represents merely the opening chapter of their collaboration with Blizzard. The centerpiece of the crossover is a bespoke Diablo IV armor set inspired by the White Wolf himself, Geralt of Rivia. Players who pre-order the upcoming Songs of the Past expansion on Battle.net will instantly unlock the skin upon its activation.

The cosmetic will not be locked exclusively behind advance orders; players who purchase Songs of the Past after its debut will also receive the skin. While the full design remains under wraps, a complete reveal is scheduled for BlizzCon in Anaheim, California (September 12–13).

The Songs of the Past narrative expansion is tentatively targeted for a 2027 debut. Meanwhile, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered launches on September 29, 2026, across PC (Steam, GOG.com, Epic Games Store, Battle.net), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
