At the Vatican, Pope Leo XVI received representatives from Hollywood’s film community.
Among those present were actors Cate Blanchett, Monica Bellucci, Viggo Mortensen, Chris Pine, Dave Franco, Alison Brie and Adam Scott; and directors Darren Aronofsky, Emir Kusturica, Gaspar Noé, Greta Gerwig, Spike Lee, Gus Van Sant and others.
The pontiff voiced his support for theatrical distribution, describing cinema as “a popular art in the noblest sense — intended for everyone and accessible to all.”
Earlier reports also listed the Pope’s favourite films as It’s a Wonderful Life, The Sound of Music, Ordinary People and Life Is Beautiful.
