The Finals Developers Preparing Major Update With Destructibility and Arena Enhancements
The launch of a new season is approaching.
Embark Studios recently reminded players about The Finals, as a major update is in the works for the free-to-play online shooter.
Players are promised a “new chapter,” and in a published address, the developers of The Finals announced the launch date for the next season as October 20:
Normally, we worked from season to season. However, this year we decided to change our approach. Instead of treating each season as a separate project, we set a single overarching goal for the entire year: to improve existing game elements and develop the features that define The Finals.
A longer development period allowed Embark Studios to tackle tasks that cannot be completed to a high standard within a three-month cycle:
Because of this, we were able to work more deeply on existing game elements, as well as invest more effort into large-scale and complex systems that require extra time to bring them up to the right standard. And although each season brings new content, the bulk of our efforts went toward deepening the overall gameplay experience.

The creators of The Finals noted that they are implementing changes to older arenas (maps) by improving lighting and materials. In addition, the October update will include a revised destruction system. Currently, an environmental element typically either remains intact or is completely destroyed, but with the updated system, “structural parts can remain partially connected upon destruction, meaning floors sag, walls tilt, and buildings collapse in more varied ways.”
Embark Studios is also currently preparing an update for Arc Raiders. The team intends to release the Frozen Trail update next month as well.
