The Standout Games of Gamescom 2026
Below is our ongoing chronological log of the titles we’ve witnessed firsthand on the show floor.
Control Resonant

As a devoted follower of the Remedy Connected Universe, anticipation for Control Resonant has been sky-high. While this Gamescom presentation remained strictly hands-off, the developer-driven demonstration provided an illuminating glimpse into the studio’s ambitious pivot toward kinetic melee action and action-RPG systems.
The sequence follows Dylan Faden—the long-contained brother of Jesse Faden—now roaming free alongside the Hiss outside the confines of the Oldest House. Instead of sterile brutalist offices, the showcase takes place in an eerie Manhattan public park overrun by a bioluminescent blue fungal outbreak. Dylan’s mission: track down and eliminate a “Resonant,” the title given to the campaign’s pivotal boss encounters.
According to Remedy, while the opening and climactic boss encounters are fixed, players are granted the freedom to hunt down intermediate Resonants in whichever sequence they prefer. Tracking this specific target requires a bizarre ritual: ingesting the intoxicating fungus, an addictive substance that has left local victims paralyzed in a state of tranquil euphoria.
Traversing the infected zone demonstrates the game’s dynamic movement. Passing an FBC field research station, Dylan shifts gravitational planes to walk effortlessly up vertical architectural surfaces. Combat quickly follows against a mob of lesser fungal entities, serving as prime targets to accumulate “Dominance”—a stacking offensive buff earned through rapid eliminations.
The skirmish escalates with the arrival of a massive, elephantine creature that deploys fungal mines and fires organic projectiles. Remedy highlighted several key combat elements during this clash:
- Transforming Arsenal: Dylan wields the morphing Aberrant weapon. Its Dual Blades configuration boosts critical strike likelihood, while its heavy drill configuration rapidly shreds the enemy’s defensive thresholds.
- Falter & Execution: Beneath the standard vitality meter sits a yellow “Falter” gauge. Depleting this posture bar staggers the opponent, opening an immediate window for a brutal L3 execution finisher.
- Active Abilities: Mapped to the controller triggers and bumpers, powers include Ignite (incendiary offensive burst), Barrage (hurling dense stone clusters to maximize Falter damage), and Push (a focused kinetic shockwave).
Notably, defensive mechanics favor pure aggression over passive turtling. There are no shields or parry systems; survival hinges on precision dodges that briefly manipulate time, alongside a health-restoration system powered entirely by blue vitality motes dropped by defeated foes.
Following the encounter, Dylan reaches the fungal source, triggering a dialogue sequence. While these branching dialogue choices will not alter the core storyline’s singular ending, Remedy confirmed that interpersonal choices actively shape NPC reputations and yield alternate resolutions for select secondary quests.
The preview concluded with an intense encounter against the Resonant target: “The Collective,” an underground monstrosity composed of writhing, frowning faces. Direct damage is initially impossible; Dylan must manipulate gravity to scale the surrounding arena walls, severing anchoring tentacles while dodging hazardous mortar fire to expose the core’s vulnerable points.
Control Resonant is scheduled for digital launch on September 24 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Boxed retail editions will follow in October, with a dedicated macOS release slated for a later window.
