Taskmaster hosts reveal Kumail Nanjiani received ‘no special treatment’

Kumail Nanjiani arguably stands as the most high-profile international celebrity to grace the stage of Taskmaster UK. The acclaimed actor, known for his breakout performances in Silicon Valley, the heartfelt The Big Sick, and Marvel’s Eternals, brings a wealth of star power to the show, following a career that includes notable turns in Bob’s Burgers, The Boys, and the Obi-Wan Kenobi series.

Traditionally, Taskmaster has remained a bastion of British comedy, tasking local personalities with absurd and often nonsensical challenges orchestrated by Greg Davies and “Little” Alex Horne. Despite his Hollywood resume, host Greg Davies confirmed to Polygon that Nanjiani received no special treatment. “The beauty of having Kumail on board is that he arrived without a shred of pretense or ego,” Davies noted. “He’s a genuine fan of the format, so he jumped straight into the fray with immense enthusiasm. Taskmaster is a great equalizer; he understood the rules and embraced the spirit of the show entirely.”

This show is its own unique universe, and Alex has built something where everyone plays by the same set of constraints. Kumail fit in seamlessly; he didn’t hold back, and we absolutely thrive when guests are willing to dive headfirst into the madness.

A true fan at heart.

The iconic Taskmaster house—a humble former groundskeeper’s cottage nestled near a London golf course—is a far cry from the high-end trailers Nanjiani might encounter on a major film set. “It’s cramped and a bit weathered; the green room is tiny and there’s no luxury to speak of,” Alex Horne admitted. “I was worried about the contrast, but he couldn’t have cared less. He was purely focused on the tasks at hand.”
