Cosplayer Shares Maelle Portrayal from Clair Obscur Expedition 33

Cosplayer MattyGrowes stepped into the unusual and frightening world of the role-playing game Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which is inspired by Belle Époque aesthetics, to portray the character Maelle.

Photographer Sofia Chatskaya decided to lift the spirits of fans of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 who are awaiting news or a new project from developer Sandfall Interactive.

She published photos featuring cosplayer MattyGrowes in the guise of Maelle.

Maelle is a young woman with expressive blue eyes and bright red hair that highlight her rebellious nature. She wields an elegant rapier in combat, and her fighting style relies on agile fencing, swift stance changes, and destructive magic.

Due to her difficult temperament, Maelle spent a long time moving through foster families until she was taken in by Gustave, who became both a caring older brother and a father figure to her.

She turned out to be the youngest member of the 33rd Expedition, joining the dangerous journey to explore the world beyond Lumiere and find her own destiny.

Maelle’s personality combines the traits of a withdrawn loner and a free-spirited teenager. Because of a difficult childhood, she finds it incredibly hard to get close to others and trust people, but she is ready to make any sacrifice for her foster family. She possesses a sharp mind, enjoys dropping witty and ironic remarks, and harbors a tremendous inner strength ready to flare up when needed.

Maelle is interesting because her motivation differs fundamentally from the goals of the rest of the squad. While other expedition members aim to save Lumiere from destruction, Maelle sees this journey as her only chance to break away from the oppressive walls of her hometown, explore the uncharted world beyond, and finally take control of her own destiny.
