Supermassive Games Lays Off Staff in New Wave of Reductions

Approximately 75 people have lost their jobs in the latest round of layoffs at Supermassive Games.

Supermassive Games has announced layoffs that could potentially affect up to 75 employees.

In a statement published by the studio, the cuts are described as “a necessary step to secure the company’s sustainability.” Supermassive Games also emphasized that it understands how difficult this period will be for the staff and intends to provide support to everyone affected by the restructuring.

This marks the third major wave of layoffs at Supermassive Games in the past three years. In July 2025, the studio cut 36 jobs amid the delay of the horror game Directive 8020 from October 2025 to May 2026. At the time, the developers explained the decision by citing the difficult and constantly changing situation in the video game industry and the need to adapt the team structure.

Another major wave of layoffs took place in February 2024, when the company reported that approximately 90 employees were affected by the redundancy consultation process. Supermassive Games once again pointed to severe challenges in the gaming industry and stated its intention to focus on its core competencies and future projects.

As a result, more than 200 employees have potentially been subjected to layoffs at Supermassive Games over the course of two and a half years.
