How to Unlock Operators

Launch-Ready: Every Modern Warfare 4 Operator, Weapon, Piece of Equipment, and Multiplayer Create-a-Class Feature

Thirty-three Operators are ready for deployment at launch, and all of them can be used in both Multiplayer and DMZ.

Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 4 lets you give every loadout its own Operator. Open Create-a-Class from the Multiplayer menu, then select the Operator slot at the top of any loadout to browse the full roster. A few Operators are yours from the start. The rest are earned by completing an in-game challenge, or come as bonuses with a pre-order or the Vault Edition.

Weapons Breakdown: Primary, Secondary, and Melee

Collage of Modern Warfare 4 firearms, including assault rifles, sniper rifles, pistols, and light machine guns.

Available in: Multiplayer, DMZ, Call of Duty®: Warzone™*

Modern Warfare 4 arrives on October 23 with 33 weapons. Below you’ll find every one of them, along with detailed stats and unlock requirements.

In Multiplayer, Create-a-Class opens up at Player Level 4. Until then, you’ll deploy with one of the premade Default Loadouts.

In DMZ, every weapon or Attachment you’ve unlocked or leveled in either Multiplayer or DMZ can be found at the Forward Operating Base Gunsmith station, as long as you can cover the DMZ Cash cost. You can also pick up weapons by looting during a deployment, building them from a Weapon Manual found in Hajin, or buying them from the FOB Vendor.

(*Call of Duty: Warzone™ content integration arrives with Season 1 later this year.)

Weapons at a Glance

Primary weapon selection screen highlighting the Han 86 assault rifle, with progression, statistics, and prestige availability.

Primary Weapons (24):

These are your heavy hitters. Each Primary Weapon has its own set of Attachments, which unlock as the weapon levels up. In Modern Warfare 4, an Attachment only needs to be unlocked once. After that, it’s available on every weapon that can use it.

Visit Gunsmith to fit each Primary Weapon with Attachments that suit your playstyle, change its Appearance, and check its Progression.

In Multiplayer, equip the “Overkill” Perk to carry a second Primary Weapon in place of your Secondary.

In DMZ, you can enter a match with two Primary weapons, two Secondary weapons, or one of each. A specific Weapon Backpack lets you carry even more.

The Primary Weapon classes are:

  • Assault Rifles (8)
  • Submachine Guns (SMGs) (5)
  • Shotguns (2)
  • LMGs (3)
  • Marksman Rifles (3)
  • Sniper Rifles (3)

Secondary Weapons (8):

Switch to your back-up weapon when your Primary runs dry or needs a reload. Pistols are best against enemy Operators, while Launchers are made for taking down vehicles, Killstreaks, and Operators. Gunsmith supports Pistols, but Launchers can only be restyled with Camos, Decals, and Stickers. There are two types of Secondary Weapons:

  • Pistols (4)
  • Launchers (4)

Melee Weapons (1):

Built for close-quarters fights. Press and hold the melee button to draw your Melee Weapon. In Multiplayer, the “Lethal Reach” Perk makes your Melee Weapon attack trigger automatically whenever you perform a weapon butt with the melee button. Melee Weapons can only be customized with Camos. One Melee Weapon is available at launch:

  • FSS Carbon Edge 1095 (Knife)

Player Levels: Weapon Unlocks and Weapon Prestige

Multiplayer progression screen showing Level 1 through Level 5 rewards, including default loadouts, Create a Class, VEL 46, and Bomb Glider.

Open the Multiplayer side menu, select your player profile at the top, then choose Progression. There you can see everything you’ll unlock as you level up across Multiplayer and DMZ (shown above).

To track an individual weapon, open the Progression menu inside Gunsmith. Once you’ve unlocked every level of a weapon, you can Prestige it to earn exclusive camos. Prestiging relocks all of its attachments and sends the weapon back to level zero. Visit the Progression and Prestige Blog for more details.

For now, the lists below show the level at which each weapon becomes available:

Primary Weapons (24)

Every Primary and Secondary Weapon in Modern Warfare 4 is described using the following details:

  • Levels: How many weapon levels it takes to hit the maximum, which unlocks the weapon’s Apex Attachment and opens the door to Weapon Prestige.
  • Rounds: The amount of ammunition, whether bullets, shells, or other ordnance, that fits in a single magazine.
  • Reserve: The total ammunition you can hold in reserve.
  • Fire Rate: Expressed in rounds per minute (RPM), the standard measure of how quickly a weapon cycles during sustained fire.
  • Unlock Requirement: What it takes to use the weapon in Create-a-Class, either Level 4, when Create-a-Class opens, or a later Player Level milestone.
  • Attachment Types: The categories of Gunsmith Attachments the weapon supports, which generally unlock as the weapon levels up.
  • Apex Attachment: Equipped apart from standard Gunsmith Attachments, so it doesn’t use up an Attachment slot. You earn it by fully leveling a supported weapon.

Assault Rifles (8)

Levels: 72

Reserve: 90

Fire Rate: 740 RPM

Unlock Requirement: Player Level 4

Attachment Types: Optic, Muzzle, Barrel, Underbarrel, Magazine, Rear Grip, Stock, Laser, Ammunition

Han 86 assault rifle and Skybreaker Apex attachment comparison, featuring a targeting optic and airburst grenade launcher.

Built for the South Korean military, the Han 86 performs dependably in a wide range of combat conditions. Chambered in 5.56, its rapid fire rate and moderate damage suit it to close-quarters fights and longer engagements alike.

Apex Attachment: Han X20 Skybreaker

This advanced system pairs a specialized targeting optic with an airburst launcher. The Han X20 Skybreaker locks onto a precise point within range and fires a 20mm airburst shell that detonates in midair over the target, with devastating effect. It’s superb for driving enemies out of cover, though a direct impact will leave the shell a dud. Blocks Optic, Stock, and Barrel Attachments.

Reserve: 90

Fire Rate: 810 RPM

Unlock Requirement: Player Level 14

Attachment Types: Optic, Muzzle, Barrel, Underbarrel, Magazine, Rear Grip, Stock, Laser, Ammunition

This fully automatic, endlessly adaptable service rifle is an icon for good reason, and it handles most combat situations with ease.
