Call of Duty Report Points to Modern Warfare 4 as Epic Finale Amid Major Franchise Overhaul
Activision acknowledges that rapid releases of Modern Warfare and Black Ops games featuring only setting changes no longer satisfy players, prompting the company to seek fresh ideas for the franchise.
Activision is preparing major changes for Call of Duty. Modern Warfare 4 will serve as the “epic conclusion” to the current Modern Warfare storyline, and a future installment will launch an entirely new sub-series.
Activision Marketing Director Tyler Bahl stated that releasing new Modern Warfare and Black Ops games in quick succession failed to meet community expectations. Players want fresh ideas, and simply changing the location or historical era is no longer enough.
Activision confirmed that a new sub-series is currently in development. Its title, setting, and gameplay features remain unannounced.

According to Bahl, Modern Warfare 4 will wrap up the current storyline, though certain characters might return in new ways in the future. The company intends to conclude the present narrative and make room for fresh concepts. For fans who have followed the Modern Warfare characters for years, the upcoming campaign will likely hold special significance.
