James Gunn has dismissed rumors about a massive crossover.

DC Studios co-head James Gunn addressed rumors regarding numerous cameos and secret characters in “Man of Steel”, the follow-up to the 2025 film “Superman”. Responding to fans on social media, he called such theories completely incorrect and heavily exaggerated.

According to Gunn, the film will not be a massive crossover in the vein of “The Avengers”. The story will remain centered on Superman and Lex Luthor, who must team up to face a threat from Brainiac:

“What secret characters? This is a movie about Lex and Clark. People shouldn’t expect a lot of screen time for other heroes.”
James Gunn

At the same time, several other DC characters will appear in the film: Aaron Pierre will play Green Lantern John Stewart, Xolo Maridueña will return as Blue Beetle, Nathan Fillion will appear as Guy Gardner, and Adria Arjona will take on a secret role. However, judging by Gunn’s remarks, despite the expanded cast of heroes, their involvement in the plot will be limited.

“Man of Steel” will be released in theaters on July 9, 2027.
