Following the announcement of the release date and trailer for Romeo is a Dead Man, executive director Goichi “Suda51” Suda reassured fans that the game will not use material created by generative AI.

According to Suda, given Grasshopper Manufacture’s distinctive and eccentric aesthetic, current AI tools would struggle to produce anything comparable.

To trim development costs, several costly 3D cutscenes were replaced with animated, manga-style panels, while the in-game sections of the spaceship are presented in pixel art. All visual assets were handcrafted: the panels were drawn by concept artists Tadayuki Nomura and Ren Yamazaki, and the spacecraft sequences were developed in collaboration with pixel animator Hattori Graphics.

Suda51 also confirmed that a version for the Nintendo Switch 2 is in development. The game was initially announced for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows (Steam), with a planned release date of February 11, 2026.
