Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero Arrive on Switch 2 Next Week with 60 FPS and Enhanced Resolution

Subnautica Below Zero on Nintendo Switch 2

Subnautica Series Dives onto Nintendo Switch 2 This February

The depths of Planet 4546B are about to become significantly more immersive. Developer Unknown Worlds Entertainment has announced that enhanced editions of Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero are scheduled to arrive on the Nintendo Switch 2 next week, launching on February 17. These upgraded versions of the beloved underwater survival titles promise to deliver superior visual fidelity and smoother performance for deep-sea explorers.

In a move that honors the existing player base, Unknown Worlds confirmed that anyone who already owns these titles on the original Nintendo Switch will be eligible for a free upgrade to the Switch 2 versions via the Nintendo eShop. The technical leaps are substantial: when docked, both games will now run at a crisp 1440p resolution, while handheld mode targets a sharp 1080p. Most notably, the experience has been optimized to maintain a fluid 60 FPS in both configurations, complemented by refined Joy-Con 2 integration for more precise environmental interactions.

“The magic of Subnautica has always been rooted in its community—the shared stories of discovery and the collective wonder of braving an alien world,” stated Michael Varette, producer at Unknown Worlds. “Bringing these experiences to the Nintendo Switch 2 is about expanding that community while providing our long-term fans a way to revisit these habitats with a newfound sense of immersion and technical polish.”

Beyond these immediate releases, the studio remains hard at work on the future of the franchise. They recently debuted a fifth developer vlog for the highly anticipated Subnautica 2, which is currently in development and placing a heavy emphasis on evolving the series’ multiplayer capabilities.

With the Switch 2 launch just days away, the siren call of the ocean is harder to ignore than ever. Will you be returning to the depths to experience these upgrades firsthand? Let us know your plans in the comments!
