10 Minutes of Gameplay Shown for RPG Sea of Remnants Featuring Turn-Based and Naval Battles
IGN has released over ten minutes of exclusive gameplay footage for Sea of Remnants, showcasing the upcoming title’s mix of real-time action, turn-based combat, and naval exploration.
The video highlights several distinct gameplay systems. Players explore land areas and fight enemies in real-time combat, while specific battle arenas shift into turn-based JRPG-style encounters. Out at sea, players steer their ship, trade cannon fire with hostile vessels, and battle sea monsters.
The core gameplay loop centers on setting sail, exploring the world, gathering loot, and returning to the hub city of Orbtopia. Players can invest collected resources into character progression and ship upgrades, allowing them to venture further on subsequent voyages and take on tougher challenges.
Expeditions also incorporate roguelike mechanics. Each voyage features changing routes, enemies, bosses, potential recruits, equipment, skills, and buffs. Players will need to adapt their party composition and battle strategy around the resources they uncover during each run.
Sea of Remnants will follow a free-to-play model, though the developers state that players can unlock new characters without paying for microtransactions. Players can embark on weekly Forgotten Voyages to recruit new heroes to their crew.
Sea of Remnants is scheduled to launch in early 2027 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, iOS, and Android. A closed beta test is set to begin in December 2026.
