The first major update for Subnautica 2, Adaptive Measures (v1.1), is officially live. This release focuses on refining your experience with a variety of quality-of-life enhancements—including the highly requested Field of View (FOV) slider—alongside a host of targeted gameplay improvements.

Items marked with a 🤿 indicate changes implemented directly in response to your invaluable community feedback!

The Adaptive Measures update will download automatically. If you don’t see it, try restarting your Steam client. Should you encounter any persistent difficulties, please reach out to our support team for assistance.

In addition to these gameplay changes, we have released high-fidelity versions (MP3 and FLAC) of the Subnautica 2 soundtrack, now available for purchase.

Gameplay

  • Refined the early-game Biomod progression for a smoother, more intuitive discovery curve.
  • Expanded the world with two new Biolabs located in the Coral Gardens and the Axum Ruins.
  • Total unlockable Biomods have been increased from four to six.
  • Scan creatures with your Bioscanner to unlock extra passive Biomod slots; progress toward these unlocks is now clearly tracked.
  • Creative Mode now provides all Biomods by default.
  • Added “New Unlock” badges within the Biolab for better clarity.
  • Revamped wreck exploration with updated puzzle mechanics and improved oxygen management.
  • Standardized visual cues for buttons and doors throughout wreck interiors.
  • Reworked reward placement to better support recent environmental puzzles.
  • Polished and standardized all wreck environments for better consistency.
  • Players can now sprint while on land or within base interiors.
  • Added dedicated sprint key-mapping in settings, with a slight reduction in base walking speed to compensate.

Fauna & Flora

  • 🤿 Creatures now display appropriate fleeing behaviors when struck by the Survival Multitool, limiting retaliatory attacks.
  • 🤿 Sonic Resonator hits now induce a brief “dizzy” state, preventing immediate retaliation.
  • Improved movement logic for schooling fish.
  • Added missing scan data icons for both the Periscopic Clowncrab and the Necrolei.
  • Aligned Creature Naming and Discovery systems with previous series standards.
  • Updated Bloom Parasite behavior and balanced encounters in the Coral Gardens and Ruins.

Resources

  • Optimized resource data for proper interaction with breaking and resonance mechanics.
  • 🤿 Refined Silver node placement in the Coral Gardens.
  • 🤿 Added proximity-based dialogue cues when searching for Silver.

Base Building

  • 🤿 Increased the maximum deconstruction footprint for bases.
  • 🤿 Streamlined Vehicle Dock and Fabricator placement logic to resolve clipping and obstruction issues.
  • Adjusted platforms and rails to be more compact, allowing for easier placement in smaller rooms.
  • 🤿 Improved visual feedback for placement ghosts, especially near water surfaces or behind obstructions.
  • Added clear notifications when a Moonpool requires expansion to accommodate vehicle docking.
  • Introduced a new storage unit that stays separate from crafting networks, allowing you to manually exclude specific items from recipes.

Menus & UI

  • 🤿 Implemented an FOV slider in the Settings menu.
  • Added quick-access buttons for our Discord and support site directly in the Main Menu.
  • Reorganized the databank, with further UI/UX improvements scheduled for future updates.

Art & Visual FX

  • Introduced a new visual asset for storage caches.
  • The World Tree Relic is now available as a decorative buildable.
  • 🤿 Construction/deconstruction blockages are now highlighted with VFX that remain visible through walls.

Animation

  • Refined third-person movement animations for land exploration.
  • Added eye-tracking and blinking animations for the player character.

Voice & Narrative

  • 🤿 Audiologs now trigger notifications rather than auto-playing, allowing you to listen at your leisure via the PDA. Replayed logs continue even if the PDA is closed.
  • Enhanced the audio priority system to prevent overlapping dialogue and ensure critical narrative moments take precedence.
  • 🤿 Corrected text-to-voice-over mismatches.
  • Added placeholder radio-effect filters for Silver-related dialogue (finalized audio coming soon).

Music & SFX

  • Added thematic music to the Lifepod cutscene.

Miscellaneous

  • Save game compatibility updated to support existing Biomod unlocks.
  • Enhanced performance and stability during the Lifepod arrival sequence.
  • Added an Xbox notice regarding Game Pass requirements for multiplayer access.
  • Added a player-reporting tool for multiplayer on Xbox.
  • Updated the Privacy Policy to clarify data processing for the upcoming Proximity Chat feature.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed rare crashes upon exiting the Main Menu or loading older save files.
  • 🤿 Resolved an issue where NVIDIA GPUs on laptops were incorrectly capped at 60 FPS.
  • 🤿 Optimized performance by reducing excess particles during surface movement.
  • Fixed performance drops in the Metal Farms area and during Tadpole destruction.
  • 🤿 Eliminated light flickering within foggy cave systems.
  • Corrected various issues with shadowing, water surface post-processing, and creature behavior (including stuck fish and incorrect despauns).
  • Addressed numerous interface bugs, including overlapping audio, unresponsive keybinds in certain languages, and save file synchronization issues.
  • Fixed various issues related to base building and deconstruction, including ghosting and power grid display errors.
