Studios will start receiving Project Helix devkits in 2027
Alpha development kits are set to be distributed to industry partners.
During the 2026 Game Developers Conference, Microsoft Gaming shared new insights into its upcoming hardware initiative, currently known by the codename “Project Helix.” At the Xbox Developer Summit, the company announced that alpha versions of the system are scheduled to reach developers starting in 2027.
Jason Ronald, Xbox Vice President of Next-Gen Hardware, reiterated that Project Helix is being engineered as a cohesive platform intended to unify the Xbox and PC gaming ecosystems.
He noted that the system is being built around a bespoke AMD chipset, specifically optimized to leverage the next iteration of DirectX and FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) upscaling technology.
Microsoft emphasizes that this innovative architecture will empower creators to build more immersive and reactive digital worlds by maximizing performance efficiency, scalability, and next-level graphical capabilities.
