Epic Games Sells ArtStation and Sketchfab as Artists Welcome Move Away from ‘AI Trash’

Comment Views: 0

Epic Games has sold digital art platform ArtStation and 3D asset marketplace Sketchfab to KitBash3D for an undisclosed amount, drawing an enthusiastic response from creators frustrated by the influx of artificial intelligence content.

Epic stated that the divestment allows the company to concentrate on its core projects, including Unreal Engine 6, Fortnite, and the Epic Games Store.

Epic originally acquired ArtStation and Sketchfab in 2021. Throughout Epic’s ownership, creators repeatedly criticized the company for failing to address a flood of AI-generated submissions, arguing that algorithmic content buried authentic portfolios and lowered the overall quality of both platforms.

Much of the community welcomed the change of ownership, expressing hope that KitBash3D will purge unwanted AI imagery from ArtStation. One user commented, “Good thing you got away from that AI trash.”

KitBash3D stated that platform operations, user portfolios, and asset libraries will not be disrupted. Meanwhile, ArtStation acknowledged that the new owner faces substantial work to rebuild trust across the creator community.
