Stewart Copeland Isn’t Composing the New Spyro Game, but Says ‘No Harm, No Foul’

Stewart Copeland discusses the new Spyro the Dragon project

For many fans, the unmistakable, rhythmic magic of the early Spyro the Dragon titles is inseparable from the work of Stewart Copeland, the legendary drummer and co-founder of The Police. However, as anticipation builds for the recently unveiled Spyro: A Realm Beyond, it has been confirmed that Copeland will not be returning to provide the soundtrack for this latest installment.

In a recent conversation with The Independent—centered on his upcoming biographical documentary premiering at the Raindance Film Festival—the iconic musician addressed his absence from the project. During the interview, he acknowledged that he is not involved with A Realm Beyond, which stands as the first original entry in the franchise since 2008 following its debut at the June 7 Xbox Games Showcase.

Reflecting on the creative evolution of the series, Copeland remained graceful about the shift in direction: “That’s just how it goes,” he told The Independent. “It is a new generation. They’re looking for a fresh, modern sonic identity to match the current era… no harm, no foul.”

Copeland’s contributions defined the sound of the original trilogy, including Spyro the Dragon, Ripto’s Rage, and Year of the Dragon, as well as Enter the Dragonfly. He also played a key role in the Spyro: Reignited Trilogy, where he both remastered his classic scores and composed a brand-new main theme.
