Steve Buscemi to appear in Far Cry adaptation

Boardwalk Empire icon Steve Buscemi has officially been tapped for the cast of the upcoming Far Cry series. The highly anticipated television adaptation of the blockbuster video game franchise is slated to air on FX.

Buscemi joins a growing ensemble that already includes Rob McElhenney (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and Lizzy Caplan (Now You See Me). McElhenney is also co-writing the series alongside Noah Hawley, the creative force behind Fargo and Alien: Earth. The project is confirmed to follow an anthology format.

The Far Cry franchise, launched by Ubisoft in 2004, centers on protagonists tasked with dismantling regimes led by various antagonists—ranging from ruthless mercenaries and arms dealers to tyrannical dictators—who have seized control of remote, lawless territories. The only previous attempt at a screen adaptation was Uwe Boll’s 2008 film starring Til Schweiger.

Before the end of the year, Buscemi is set to appear in Martin McDonagh’s drama Wild Hors and Taika Waititi’s science-fiction feature Klara and the Sun. The actor also recently signed on for the Hulu reboot of The X-Files.
