Details of Joel Coen’s new film revealed
Joel Coen has wrapped production on his latest feature, Jack of Spades. The director returns to a Scottish setting for this project, which is being described as a gothic mystery unfolding against the backdrop of 1880s Scotland.
The screenplay draws inspiration from Frances Frederica Montrésor’s 1901 novel, The Alien: A Story of Middle Age. The narrative centers on Esther Mordaunt (played by Patsy Ferran), a woman in her thirties whose existence is upended by the arrival of an enigmatic stranger (Josh O’Connor), a man who may have returned from the grave.
In addition to Ferran, O’Connor, Frances McDormand, and Lesley Manville, the cast features Damian Lewis. While Focus Features has yet to officially confirm its involvement, the film has not appeared on any festival slates and is currently slated for a 2027 release.
