ETS2 1.50 Experimental Beta: features and risks
SCS Software released the Euro Truck Simulator 2 update 1.50 Experimental Beta on 11 April 2024. The studio deliberately used an earlier, less polished build than a normal open beta so players could test major changes and report problems before the stable release.
What the experimental build previewed
The graphics work included temporal anti-aliasing, smoother cascaded shadows, soft particles, shaded smoke, distant shadows and optimized light calculations. SCS was still using DirectX 11 while preparing these rendering changes.
The build also introduced a flatter interface with a new home screen, status bar, quick-menu shortcuts and tooltips. Map content included the rebuilt Switzerland and Rhine region of Germany. Other additions covered the Scania Demo Centre, a Wielton Trailer Pack update, lane assistance, an updated MAN TGX and gamepad-oriented navigation.
Why SCS warned about instability
This was not presented as a finished version. SCS warned that testers could encounter bugs, crashes and incomplete features, and advised players who wanted a stable experience to wait. The branch existed to collect feedback before the regular open beta and final release.
Update 1.50 reached the stable ETS2 branch on 14 May 2024. The old experimental-branch instructions are therefore historical and should not be treated as a current installation guide.
