Iceland: Viewpoints
Today we’re taking you on a tour of some of the viewpoints waiting in the upcoming Iceland DLC for Euro Truck Simulator 2. Pull over, step away from the wheel for a moment, and take in the scenery!

In our games, viewpoints are landmark locations that our map designers have carefully recreated to reflect their real-world counterparts. If you’ve stopped at one before, you already know the routine. Drive up to the viewpoint and activate the trigger, and a short cutscene will begin, guiding you around the area and showing off its most striking details.
Unsurprisingly, Iceland has no shortage of viewpoints, and many of them showcase the country’s extraordinary natural beauty. We’ve prepared quite a few for you, but we’d rather not spoil the joy of discovering them on your own. So for now, here is just a small taste of what lies along Iceland’s roads!
First up is the renowned Seljalandsfoss waterfall in southern Iceland, which sits right beside the Ring Road. Its waters tumble roughly 60 metres down a rocky cliff before settling into a small pool at the base.

Head southwest from Reykjavík onto the Reykjanes Peninsula and you’ll reach another highlight: the Blue Lagoon, a beloved geothermal spa. It came into being by accident in 1976, during the construction of the Svartsengi Geothermal Power Plant. Surplus geothermal seawater from the plant drained into a neighbouring lava field and slowly built up into the lagoon we know today. Its milky-blue shade comes from a high concentration of silica, which scatters sunlight in a remarkable way.

Travel east of the capital instead, and you’ll encounter Gullfoss, the “Golden Falls”, among the most celebrated waterfalls in the country. Its two-stage drop, glacial origin and canyon setting make it truly distinctive, and it’s one of the most popular stops on waterfall tours.

In eastern Iceland, be sure to visit Stuðlagil Canyon, an astonishing basalt formation in the Jökuldalur Valley. It only emerged in 2009, when a hydroelectric project lowered the level of the Jökulsá á Dal River and exposed the canyon’s imposing basalt walls. Today it’s admired for its dramatic columns of rock and the vivid blue glacial river that winds between them.

Close to Akureyri you’ll find Goðafoss, one of the most iconic sights in the Land of Fire and Ice. Its name traces back to a legend from around 1000 AD, when Iceland embraced Christianity. As the tale goes, the chieftain Þorgeir Ljósvetningagoði cast his pagan idols into the falls, symbolising the nation’s peaceful shift to the new faith.

Many more viewpoints are waiting for you, including Þingvellir, Geysir and Jökulsárlón, but we’ll leave those for you to uncover. If you can’t wait to see them, make sure to add the Iceland DLC to your Steam wishlist!
