Reykjavík and BIG in Iceland

Velkomin til Reykjavíkur! Join us for a tour of Iceland’s capital in the upcoming Iceland DLC for Euro Truck Simulator 2, releasing on November 10. We’re also revealing the new Special Transport routes coming to the island.

Reykjavík and BIG in Iceland

Situated on the Seltjarnarnes peninsula, Reykjavík is the heart of Iceland and home to many of the country’s best-known landmarks. The capital brings together lively urban areas, scenic waterfronts and striking natural landscapes.

Recreating Reykjavík at the game’s map scale presented our designers with a challenge. The city centre sits on a peninsula, while numerous suburbs spread across the Greater Reykjavík area. With limited space to work with, the team carefully balanced roads, industries and landmarks with the surrounding scenery and destinations.

No recreation of the capital would be complete without Route 41, the well-travelled road connecting Reykjavík and Keflavík. As it winds through the city, drivers pass industrial areas and points of interest on their way towards the waterfront. You can also drive a short section of Route 49, which links the city to Iceland’s Ring Road, known locally as Hringvegur.

There is plenty of work to be found in and around the capital, with depots representing a variety of Icelandic industries.

Among them is the Straumsvík aluminium smelter, Iceland’s first and longest-operating aluminium reduction facility. Farther east, near Route 36, a farming area in Mosfellsdalur offers a change of pace from deliveries in the busy capital.

Closer to Reykjavík, the coastal town of Garðabær is home to an IKA store and a logistics hub. At the waterfront, truckers can visit Sundahöfn, a major industrial and harbour area with a large container port and a recycling company offering further delivery opportunities.

Transport helps keep Iceland’s communities connected and essential supplies moving. Near Reykjavík, drivers will also find an oil storage facility that supplies fuel to the capital and surrounding region.

Those looking to service their truck or establish a base in the capital can visit a Volvo dealership, a service station and a garage available to purchase. There is more to Reykjavík than industry, however. Our map designers have also recreated many of its famous sights, especially along the waterfront.

One landmark is Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre. Standing beside the harbour, the modern building is known for its distinctive glass architecture. Across the road, you can spot the Central Bank of Iceland, while other familiar sights include the harbour’s yellow lighthouses and a statue of Ingólfur Arnarson, traditionally recognised as Reykjavík’s founder.

Landmarks near Reykjavík’s harbour

Follow the shoreline to find the Sun Voyager, a steel sculpture overlooking the sea and inspired by the form of a Viking ship. From here, you can also admire the city skyline and the unmistakable tower of Hallgrímskirkja church. The landmark is visible from several places around Reykjavík, including as you approach the capital.

Near the harbour, you’ll find a recruitment agency and a coach terminal. The terminal has been moved slightly from its real-world location to fit the scale of the map.

Whether you arrive with a delivery, seek out your next job or simply explore the city, we hope you enjoy discovering the details our designers have included. And if you’re ready for a larger challenge, Iceland has some oversized deliveries waiting for you.

Big in Iceland: Special Transport Routes

Owners of the Euro Truck Simulator 2 Special Transport DLC will be able to take on four new routes across Iceland.

With professional escort teams guiding the way, you’ll haul some of the largest and heaviest loads across the island’s roads. Cargo options include reservoir tanks, silos, boats, enormous tyres and underground loaders.

We’re also introducing a new cargo: the articulated dumper. This massive machine was previously available only in American Truck Simulator. You can take on oversized deliveries along the following routes:

  • Selfoss to Selfoss
  • Keflavík to Selfoss
  • Blönduós to Akureyri
  • Ólafsvík to Hólmavík

Each journey brings its own challenges, so stay close to your escort vehicles, pay attention to your surroundings and take extra care with these enormous loads.
