Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Sequel Novel Set for November 17 Release
Ask Star Trek fans for their favorite series and the answers vary. One pick that stands out is Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, which changed how many people think about Trek. Most of the action took place on the space station of the title instead of a starship. The show also built a long story arc around Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks), who sat at the center of a major prophecy. Later seasons pushed Starfleet to the brink. Sisko and other officers showed they would cross lines to win a war, and that brought moral ambiguity into the wider Star Trek universe.
Deep Space Nine is coming back in November 2026 through the novel Star Trek: Deep Space Nine — The Peacemakers. Uma McCormack wrote it. The story takes place five years after the series finale, “What You Leave Behind,” and follows Sisko’s son, Jake.
Jake is working on a new book about the fallout of the Dominion War. His research takes him to Cardassia Prime. After he joins a Cardassian expedition, a series of murders puts him and his companions in danger. The setup combines the political intrigue and character development that made Deep Space Nine a success. It also touches on a mystery that has haunted the series since it ended.

The new Deep Space Nine novel will address Jake Sisko’s fate
“What You Leave Behind” wrapped up most of the show’s running plot threads, including the Dominion War. It also settled Sisko’s fate as the “Emissary of the Prophets,” who was taken into the wormhole near the station. Before he goes, he tells his crew that he will return. That includes Jake and his wife, Kasidy Yates (Penny Johnson Jerald). Fans have long wondered what happened to Jake in the years after his father vanished, and The Peacemakers promises to answer that question.
The novel also looks at the aftermath of the war for Cardassia. Throughout Deep Space Nine, the Cardassians were enemies of Starfleet until they finally turned against the Dominion. The war then devastated their homeworld. In The Peacemakers, Jake gets a chance to learn more about his father’s former enemies while the Cardassians rebuild. Star Trek, after all, is at its best when it shows people setting aside their differences to achieve greatness.

Other Star Trek projects have continued the Deep Space Nine legacy
The Peacemakers isn’t the only project revisiting the Deep Space Nine era. Longtime Star Wars novelist Timothy Zahn is writing a new Deep Space Nine graphic novel called Roc’s Egg. Its story leads to a mystery aboard the station.

Comics have brought back the show’s characters before. Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly wrote an ongoing Star Trek series for IDW Publishing. Its first volume is titled Godshock. The series returned Sisko to fight a mysterious force that is killing gods. He is joined by an all-star crew of Trek characters, including Montgomery “Scotty” Scott and Beverly Crusher. Crusher is also getting her own comic miniseries.

The biggest return is Jake Sisko himself. Cirroc Lofton reprises the role in the Star Trek: Starfleet Academy episode “Series Acclimation Mil.” The episode reveals that Jake wrote a book about his father’s disappearance. It also shows that instructor Illa Dax now carries the Dax symbiont once joined with Jadzia Dax, Sisko’s former colleague.
Starfleet Academy co-showrunner Noga Landau told Polygon in an interview that the episode was constructed as a homage to Deep Space Nine. She described how the idea took shape:
“When I first joined the show, all of these people from my past came out of the woodwork and were DMing me, saying, ‘Well, we’re so excited for you. When is someone going to do something for Sisko? When is someone going to do an homage to DS9?’”…We worked hard to break a story that really felt like it was part of our show, but also felt like it was the love letter that we wanted it to be.”
