Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade for the Nintendo Switch 2 has sparked considerable buzz — not only among players, but also with the game’s director. The team at Square Enix faced a formidable challenge.
According to Naoki Hamaguchi, the primary difficulty was the Switch 2’s power consumption, particularly in handheld mode. Their top priority was to secure a consistent 30 frames per second without compromising graphical quality — optimization consumed the bulk of the team’s time.
The developers emphasize they want to reach the widest possible audience, which is why the title is coming to Nintendo’s new console. Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will launch on Switch 2 on January 22, 2026, and the visuals moved Hamaguchi deeply: “When I saw the game running on a Switch 2 in my hands, I was truly moved.”
The game director also challenged the stereotype that handheld versions are inferior: “Contrary to expectations, the game’s visuals are rich and beautiful.” The Switch 2 will deliver a full experience comparable to other platforms.
Hamaguchi also announced that a playable demo will be released in 2025, allowing fans to experience the magic of Final Fantasy VII on the new console firsthand.
