The project in its current state appears unlikely to see a full release. The developers behind Light of Motiram have reached an apparent settlement following a legal confrontation with PlayStation’s counsel.
From the moment Light of Motiram was first unveiled, players immediately branded it a “Horizon clone.” Its sprawling vistas, futuristic tech, and mechanical beasts bore a striking resemblance to Guerrilla Games’ flagship series, making Sony’s legal interest almost inevitable. That situation has now reached a critical turning point.
Legal filings indicate that Sony and Tencent have finalized a confidential settlement, leading to the official closure of the case with no option for it to be reopened.
Simultaneously, Light of Motiram has vanished from both Steam and the Epic Games Store. While store pages for the title were active until recently, the project has now been completely delisted from these digital platforms.
This follows a lawsuit filed by Sony in July, which accused Tencent of creating a blatant imitation of the Horizon franchise. The complaint highlighted significant overlaps in world-building and visual identity, as well as marketing materials that featured a protagonist remarkably similar to Aloy. Sony contended that these similarities infringed upon their copyrights and trademarks, potentially misleading the gaming community.
Although the specific terms of the agreement remain under wraps, the final result is clear: the game will not enter the market in its existing form. As of now, neither Sony nor Tencent has provided an official statement regarding the resolution.
